May 6th - The name of the golf course is...
....
....
Damn. Forgot it.
Once again, I played with Josh. Also along for the trip was his bro-inlaw, Patrick and his buddy Steve.
The golf course (Country club?) was down route 109 in the town of...Hempstead, or Milford, or Medford. I don't know. I'm pretty sure we drove through Milford for a second.

Holliston! It was in Holliston. And the name of the course is Glen Ellen. Didn't come to me by memory though. I had to google it. Who needs a memory when google exists? It's so much easier than remembering things.

The location seemed to be an old country club with a few reception halls, a huge locker room, a good sized swimming pool, tennis courts, soccer field, driving range, etc. I was rather impressed by the facilities and thought we had pulled into a pretty decent place. Granted, most of the facilities weren't up and running, and you could tell that they were in better condition 20 years ago or so. But from what I read, the course and facilities had been taken over and renovated. I'm guessing later in the season they gussy up the place a bit.

It's not a particularly long course. I think the distance from the white tees was 6200+ yards, which is about the distance I like to play. I definitely did not feel as if the course was short.

I'm having a hard time distinguishing holes at the moment. I'm gonna have to take a peek at the website and see if anything comes back to me. ..

The course is pretty wide open on many of the holes with some back and forth play. There were times where I would be hitting from an adjoining fairway or rough instead of the one I should be playing, but was never in too much trouble. Because of the back and forth play, deep woods didn't come into play too often, and an average player would be able to spray the ball a little.

There definitely were some hazards, though. There were numerous times people in our group found themselves in strategically placed bunkers including right at the beginning on hole #1. Gotta stay to the left there. Many holes had water hazards, and this seem to be our downfall of the day. I was in the drink at least two times (9 and 15) that I remember, which definitely hurt my score.

Overall, my game wasn't bad, but not great either. I didn't make too many mistakes, although I vividly remember choosing the wrong shot on 9 which I thought was a par 4 but was actually a par 5 (I was hitting fromt he rough on the 10th hole). There was a pond about 20 yards infront of the green. Because I didn't have a good view, I thought I would be able to fly my second shot over the small pond and land right in front, off the green. I hit a BEAUTIFUL, clean 4 iron. I really pounded the sucker. I'm pretty sure I hit it a solid 190. Unfortunately, the pond's range was probably 180-200 yds. Needless to say I never saw that ball again. I ended up with a 7 on that hole, which is not bad considering I put it in the drink.

As for the course maintanence...not bad. But not great. There were definitely some thin spots, though no real bare spots. I wouldn't expect any less for 60 bucks, but I would definitely expect more. I wasn't impressed with the fairways. But have no real complaints about the greens, though they were somewhat inconsistent.

I'll rate the course a solid 6 out of 10. The pros were course layout and good mix of hazards. The cons are the less than stellar maintanence of the fairways, rough and greens. If the course was in the $50 range I don't think I would be as critical, and this was prior to the heavy May rains, so I would guess that the fairways have improved a little since then.

That's all. This weekend I'll be in NY for a Mets vs.Yankees game and a Lions Club Golf Tourney. Can't wait.
