January 19 and 20. First weekend back after the January thaw. Reports were that it did a number on the mountain. By the end of the week only half the mountain was open and I'm sure it was boilerplate at that. So I skipped it. I decided to go up the next weekend even though the reports weren't epic. But sometimes you just have to go and find out for yourself. And although the conditions weren't great, they weren't bad. Lots of dust on crust. It was the type of snow that one has to take several runs to get used to it. Most of the trails and glades were scratchy. I guess you could call it a skills strengthening weekend. My body was definitely worked by the end of the weekend.

I think the highlight runs were in Beyond beaver pond. I found several good stashes in there. didn't even have to go beyond the rope to find the fresh stuff. Many people complain that beaver is a short run. But I find it to be some of the steepest shots on the mountain, which I'm very willing to trek across the mountain for.

January 26 and 27. Very good weekend. And Look! we have media! Jay refreshed very well between the previous week and this weekend. Not surprisingly, we had a full house because of the positive reports during the week. On Friday, the mountain received 8 inches of fresh, light powder. We got to the mountian first thing on Saturday to get the freshies. But in all honesty, the 8 inches was so light that we were scratching the base underneath and wasn't really slowing us down. We couldn't really rip though it because it would just blow away. The snow was too powdery!! But as the day went on, the snow settled and the pow became much better. By sunday, the conditions were awesome. We spend A LOT of time in the dip this time.

Part of this was because the FLyer was closed to for both days so the lifts were outrageously busy. So it was easier to just cycle the dip all day. And also, my friend, Josh was visiting Jay for the first time, midwinter and he had so much about this area. Once he had experienced it, he couldn't get enough. The following short clips are courtesy of Josh. Overall it was 2 spectacular days.
