What a horrible, horrible EPIC week. Wednesday January 28th - Drove up in the morning during a snow storm. It wasn't a bad drive, just took a long time. Unfortunately, it appears that I lost my phone the day before but didn't realize it until this morning. This delayed me about 45 minutes. Never found it. Got to the mountain between 1:00 and 1:30pm. There was a good amount of snow falling and a fair share on the mountain. Probably about 4-6 inches. I was really soar starting out and had problems with my boots. I only rode for about 2 hours. Didn't have great runs, but the snow showed potential. Wanted to save my energy for Thursday. Thursday January 29th - Woke up early but took my time to get to the mountain. Don't know why. It appeared that we only had a couple more inches over night when I looked out the window of the house. I was wrong. When I pulled out of the driveway I got stuck, because there was about 8 inches of light, fluffy snow on the ground. But that...
Friday January 23rd - This was one of the better days of the year so far. So I tried something different this day. Instead of trying to remember the best runs of the day a few days later like I have been for the past few years, I thought I would try to tweet updates wthhile I was on the mountain. I also linked my tweets to my facebook account, so that my status would be updated with my tweets. It worked out pretty well. But I only did it on Friday, because it was the only day warm enough to take my hand out of my pocket to send text messages. So, the day was great. One of the best days of the year. Jay reported that they had gotten several small shots during the week that eventually accumulated to 2'. I don't know about 2 feet, but there was plenty of new snow on the mountain. The snow base was much improved from the previous week. Definitely set up for a good weekend. I started the day by doing a groomer (WGG as usual) then headed to the Tram since there was no line waiting f...

Saturday January 17 It was super cold on Saturday. Randy and I planned ahead by deciding to hike some of the Big Jay trail from Rt. 242. The plan was to mapped out a path on Randy's handheld GPS so that we would have a "target" the next time we started from the top. We hiked about 1.5 miles in. After looking at the GPS map I notice that we traversed pretty far into the bowl, which is good, because we both figured we would not want to drop any further than that traverse. We hiked in via snowshoe but we did not have to break any trail luckily. We just had to follow the ski tracks that had previously come down Big Jay. Sunday January 18th Woke up a bit later than usual due to a great steak dinner festivities from Saturday night. When I woke I looked out the window and it was snowing lightly out. But it was steady and then is good. We had about 2 inches at the house so I suspected that there was probably 4 inches at the mountain, which is about right when we arrived at Jay...
Monday January 12th Groomers in the morning. That was it.
Thursday January 8 Came up midday Wednesday to beat traffic during a winter storm that was hitting NH and VT. Even with the mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow, the trip still only took 4.5 hrs. People who think Jay is so far away have no idea. The forecast for Thursday was 12-20 inches. I can honestly say that that probably is about the amount the mountain received. Probably closer to 12 inches when I got to the mountain, but it also snowed all day while there. We picked up another 6" during the day. Awesome day. Top 3 of the year. The snow was light and fluffy. Best run of the day way Dip run #2 (out of 3 we did this day). Also hit Valhalla early in the day. I wasn't warmed up yet, so it was not the bet run. Vertigo was good. Damn. this was 4 days ago and I can't even remember what runs we did. Friday January 9th First 3 runs on Vertigo were awesome. Rode with Mike Sagelini, Anthony and John, who were playing hookie from work. Snow was a bit beat up but it was stil...
Tuesday December 30 Got my car stuck in the driveway of the house. Didn't get it out until 1:30. Wind delays. Only Jet and Bonnie were open. Received 6-8 inches between Monday and Tuesday. It was blowing everywhere. Just rode some groomers on my old 156 Custom. Jib style with a duck stance. Interesting, but it's time to retire the 156. Wednesday December 31 Today wasn't much better than Tuesday. Rode with Leslie and some of Leslie's friends. Decent conditions in the Orchards, which seems to be a theme this year. Jet and Bonnie were the only thing open again. Not much else to write about. We had a great NYE party at our house. Keg of Switchback ale. Pool, Ping Pong, and Beirut. Friday January 1 The tram side lifts were finally open today. Vommie and I did a run through Beaver Pond, but it was sketchy. Went back to Jet side and did some orchard and a dip run. Did the dip with a big group - about 14 people. But the Dip is still not ready again. Jay needs more snow.
