I have skipped a few weeks of updating, only because I haven’t been motivated. But I’m sitting at home today due to the pitiful conditions Jay has experienced the last few weekends. I tell ya, it’s depressing. Hopefully we will get some snow this upcoming week.

A few weekends (Jan 7-8) ago, the skiing and riding were great. Jay might have gotten about 10” the prior week which freshened up the woods, especially after the bulletproof conditions over New Years weekend. On Saturday, the house did a great job of waking up early. For once, we were all out of there prior to 10am. Actually I think we made it onto the mountain at 9:30. I would like to do this more often as I felt like I had a better day than usual. As for the conditions, it was soft, especially in the trees. There was a fair amount of powder, mostly cut, but some stashes of freshies in Beaver Pond and Beyond Beaver. I was really feeling it in there. We probably took 3-4 runs in Beaver Pond, this included Nicky and JessB by the last run. Eric and I found a couple new drops that I had never seen before, probably because there is usually more snow so they aren't exposed as much. Anyway I hope we can find them again next time we get in there with more snow. On Sunday, The most memorable run was off Green Beret into Valhalla. Green Beret was not powdery, but the snow was real grippy and easy to get an edge into. I wish I had taken a more challenging line. I was concerned that it would be icy, but my suspicions were unfounded. Valhalla was skied out as usual. Didn't get a great run in there. We skied right up to the end of the day, also, right up until 4:00pm.
Sunday was a slightly shorter day, we didn't get to the mountain until about a 11. I think we had too much fun the night before. Conditions weren't as good since we didn't receive any new snow, but they were still good. We stayed until about 3:30, quite uncommon for a Sunday. But we were having too much fun.
Last weekend sucked. Had a few good challenging runs on UN on Sunday, but that's about it. It was mostly hard pack with some shots of powder in the trees, especially in Kitz woods. It was also pretty darn cold. Hopefully these conditions are coming an end soon. We really need some snow up there and some consistency.
