It's mid-February and I'm still updating this site. Can't believe it. And the fact that I started doing it during the worst season in recent memory is even more amazing. Let's just admit it, this year has been downright pitiful. I'm not saying I haven't experienced some good, or even, great days on the slopes. It's just that we haven't had any EPIC Jay days yet. You know the type of day. When you wake up and there's 6” of fresh pow on the car which translates to 12” on the hill. And you are able to find fresh stashes everywhere on the mountain. Where every run ends with a huge smile on your face. Yeah, we need a few days like that. Let's keep our fingers crossed, kids.

Let me TRY to keep this update short. Saturday was absolutely beautiful. Absolute bluebird and surprisingly warm! I think the temps were in the teens all day, but with the strong february sun it was real comfy out there. Jay had reportedly gotten 20+ during the week, which they disparately needed. I'm not sure what the mountain would have looked like without the the 20” refresh. All runs were open and mostly in good shape. Not too much powder, but mostly manageable. Kitz Woods seemed to be the most popular run of the day. Maybe because we just couldn't get our bearings straight all day. Spent lots of time criss-crossing the mountain. Went from Vertigo on the Bonnie to the Jet to the freezer. I don't know, never felt settled anywhere during the day. The group on Saturday included Randy, Callin, Jess1, and I. Also making special appearances included KeithB, David Fav, and Steve Bags. This was Bags first time at Jay. We tried to show him some of the best terrain such as Vertigo, Beyond Beaver, and the Dip. This was actually David and Bags first descent of the Dip. From their expressions at the end, I think they were both thoroughly impressed. Most Memorable runs of the day: The dip and beyond beyond beyond Beaver Pond (we went a too far off the top and had to hike back)

On Sunday morning, we were moving somewhat slow, taking our time getting to the mountain. We decided to make bacon and eggs for breakfast, lounging in the living room, etc etc etc. It didn't help that the weather was cloudy and cooler than the day before.

But this all change very quickly, as soon as Mr. Woods pulled into the driveway. I think Randy summed it up best when he stated, “Well, I guess we can rule out the groomers!” Yes, the groomers would not come into play this day. When Aaron is around, I think everyone steps it up a little. It's more for survival and the fear of not being left behind. He skis fast. And sick. He's a sick skier. Always looking for the smallest stash in the tightest space between trees. I, unfortunately, attempt to follow right behind him. I get more aggro when he's skiing with the group. Take bigger chances, especially with chosen lines – trusting more blind spots, hoping there isn't a cluster of trees around the next corner. Luckily, I and everyone else, came out of the day unscathed. And I think we all had a blast. Again, not EPIC but a great day. Best Runs: Beaver Pond – We kept hitting the “center” area where it's the steepest and kind of went across the fall line. The Dip as usual, was awesome, and this time we actually hit the “cliff” area on top. Callin definitely wins the award for best drop attempts. The first included him trying to drop a rock outcropping where he took off with only one ski attached. The second was a 10' drop on to a FLAT landing. Amazingly, he almost stayed upright. Very impressive.

Anyway, Thanks to Dave, Bags and Keith for visiting this weekend. It was great skiing/riding with you guys.

Randy sent me some pics and video clips. I'll post them tomorrow.
