Let's make a list of what made this past weekend at Jay fantastic:
SNOW!
They finally got a shitload. The reports claim about 2 feet. I believe it this time. Everything we rode was in good...nay, GREAT shape.
The Weids
First time we went into this stash of glades this year. Randers and I hit these trees three or four consecutive times. And we were debating on going back in them a few more times. If it wasn't for damned kokomo and the freezer, we probably would have.
The burger at the JVI.
It was really good. Damn juicy.
First Tram...
...and getting to the mountain before 9am both days. We got two full days of riding in. I hadn't done this in a long time, and I think I will plan on doing it for the rest of the year. I can't wait till 10 to get to the mountain anymore. I just can't (unless I'm hungover).
Green Beret and Valhalla
GB was the same as it always it. The top part was wicked icy with rocks, but if you traversed over to the left side there was a good amount of pow. And after the first pitch the snow was super soft. I also hit Valhalla perfectly this time. Instead of dropping right away I kept working my way over to the right. Seemed like there were more open areas over there and made for a longer run.
Runs from the top of the mountain
We don't do tram runs to often, so it's easy to forget how long a run it is. Green Beret to Valhalla to Hells Woods to the Jet. It's a long fuckin' run.
The Dip
As usual, but for the first time this year, I felt like I was floating turns without scraping the hard stuff. Made quality turns all the way to the road. Was able to pop off jumps with no concern about hard landings. Another first for the year.
Timbuk2 Orchards
I can't say I got any fresh turns in there today, but there was just a ton of snow piled up. Soft turns all the way down, and the soft moguls were great for launching airs.
Me kicking Rander's ass in NHL'03 on Xbox.
Garbage Goals? Not a chance. Most amazing give and go one-timer this side of the Canadian border.
IR buffet on Sunday.
They must have been gearing up for the Mardi Gras this week, because they went well beyond their soup, salad, pasta combo. Cajun Salmon, stuffed portabello, some kind of chicken with cheese. All good. All spicy. Followed by a great cup of coffee that really helped me keep it together in the afternoon. We also met the Chef that Jay flies in from New Orleans to cook for the week's festivities. Can't wait for the crawdaddies on Saturday this week!
What sucked this weekend:
Shredding my gloves. The temps (although bearable). Missing the first tram after lunch because Randers wouldn't cut the queebs in front of him. Some weird pain near my spleen or liver or kidney or rib or pancreas. I don't know, somewhere down there. My base delamming and a crack on my boards edge. The drunk dudes at the Belfry.
But really, this weekend was so fantastic that these were minor annoyances. Cheers to many more in March!
